One challenge in producing small ornamental fish is inducing gonadal maturation with hormones because their small size limits the doses that can be administered. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a protocol for inducing gonadal maturation in P. conchonius through hormonal immersion. A total of 21 females and 15 males were used per treatment. In each treatment, fish underwent an osmotic shock at 15 ‰ for 2 or 7 minutes, then were immersed in 14, 28, or 40 µg L⁻¹ sGnRHa (Ovaprim®) in freshwater at 25 °C. Two control groups were subjected to the same conditions as the experimental group, but without the hormone. All treatments had a 12-hour latency period. Gametes were produced only in the treatment involving a 7-minute osmotic shock with 40 µg L-1 of sGnRHa, with a 99% success rate in females; in males, 11.2% released sperm following abdominal pressure. A total of 442 eggs were collected and fertilized, with a fertilization rate of 89.5%. This protocol applies to P. conchonius specimens with an average length and weight of ≤ 5 cm and ≤ 3 g, respectively.
